Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar's daughter says she was suspended from Barnard College for her role in anti-Israel protests at Columbia University in New York.
Isra Hirsi announced her suspension in a post on X.
"i'm an organizer with CU Apartheid Divest @ColumbiaSJP, in my 3 years at @BarnardCollege i have never been reprimanded or received any disciplinary warnings," she wrote.
"i just received notice that i am 1 of 3 students suspended for standing in solidarity with Palestinians facing a genocide."
Students have been protesting at the school's Morningside campus. More than 100 students protested outside Butler Library on Wednesday in what was billed a tent protest.
They are demanding the university divest from companies and institutions that profit from what they call "Israel's occupation of Palestine."
Three people were reportedly arrested on Wednesday.
Hirsi said in a follow-up post, "those of us in Gaza Solidarity Encampment will not be intimidated. we will stand resolute until our demands are met."
Complaints of antisemitism and Islamophobia have been on the rise at the campus of 35,000 students, according to the Associated Press.
The school is now trying to limit demonstrations. Protests are only supposed to be held only on weekdays at certain times and locations.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
