The reason behind a multi-state 911 outage has been revealed.
Communication services provider Lumen says "a third-party company installing a light pole" caused the outage and was not related to any of their own equipment.
People in Nevada, South Dakota and Nebraska had issues with emergency calls during the outage that lasted several hours..
In a statement on Thursday, Thursday statement, Lumen said it "restored all services in approximately two and a half hours."
The Federal Communications Commission said it was aware of the outage and investigating.
"We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate our customers' patience and understanding," Lumen Global Issues Director Mark Molzen told CNN.
A 911 outage in Texas was not tied to the issues Lumen faced.
