American Idol Star Mandisa Dead at 47

American Idol alum and Grammy winner Mandisa was found dead at her Nashville home Thursday. She was 47.

The death of the Christian vocalist, whose legal name is Mandisa Hundley, was announced on her Facebook account Friday.

"We can confirm that yesterday Mandisa was found in her home deceased. At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details. We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time," a statement on her Facebook read.

"Mandisa was a voice of encouragement and truth to people facing life's challenges all around the world," it continued.

The Franklin Police Department confirmed a death investigation was underway at Mandisa's home, however they declined to confirm the identification of the deceased, according to The Tennessean.

"What I can confirm is that our officers responded to a residence for a death investigation Thursday evening, and it's being actively investigated," Franklin Police Department spokesperson Max Winitz told the paper.

Hundley made it to the top 9 in season 5 of American Idol.

She later went on to become a successful Christian singer, releasing six studio albums..

In 2013, she won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian album for Overcome.
