A traffic stop in Idaho ended with a police officer shot and the suspect later killed after a standoff.
An Ada County Sheriff's Deputy was shot by a driver Saturday night during a traffic stop in Boise.
A citizen witnessed the shooting, called 911, and performed CPR, police said. The deputy was transported to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise. His condition was not released.
Boise Police found the suspect's vehicle about a half hour later and tracked the driver to a home as they issued a Code Red notification to neighbors warning them about the incident and to stay indoors.
A shootout between the suspect and police was triggered as officers attempted to take the man into custody. He was shot during the confrontation and pronounced deceased a short time later at a hosptial
The shooting will be investigated and the officer will be placed on administrative leave during the review.
"Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the injured Ada County Deputy and his family at this extremely difficult time," said Boise Police Chief Ron Winegar. "We are thankful no innocent, uninvolved bystanders were injured in these violent encounters."
