President Joe Biden said Friday that he would be "happy" to debate Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican candidate for president, this fall.

The president was asked on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show whether he would take part in a debate with his predecessor.

"I am, somewhere. I don't know when," Biden said. "But I'm happy to debate him."

Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser on the Trump campaign, posted "OK let's set it up!" on the social media platform X after Biden's comments.

Biden's campaign has yet to commit to debating Trump, the Associated Press reported. The two debated twice during the 2020 presidential campaign.

Trump, who refused to debate his Republican primary contenders, has said he would debate Biden "anytime, anywhere, anyplace."

Earlier this month, the country's largest news organizations posted an open letter urging the two men to participate in televised debates.

The organizations, including CSpan, the Associated Press, Fox News, and CNN, said the debates have been a "rich tradition in our American democracy" dating back to 1976.

The Commission on Presidential Debates last November announced the dates and places for the three presidential debates. The first will be held Sept. 16 at Texas State University, the second Oct. 1 at Virginia State University, and the third Oct. 9 at the University of Utah.
