American Airlines Flight With 'Perceived Threat' Lands Safely In Kansas City

An American Airlines flight headed to Kansas City from Chicago landed safely on Thursday despite warning of a "perceived threat," thestate.com reported.

According to FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton, a person at O'Hare Airport in Chicago who missed the flight said something that could "possibly be perceived as a threat." However, authorities searched the plane after it landed and found nothing suspicious or harmful.

After the plane landed, the 63 passengers and four crew members exited the aircraft in a remote area of the airport before authorities investigated.

The name of the individual who made the claim was not released and a call made to O'Hare Airport officials by The State was not returned. It is also unknown if anything was discovered on the plane.

In July, a Southwest flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Phoenix after authorities received a threat on the phone.

Michael Kucharek, spokesman for the North American Aerospace Defense Command, told Reuters that the situation warranted a fighter jet diversion.

"It was serious enough that we diverted aircraft from their original flight plan," Kucarek said.

However, no explosives were discovered on the plane and all passengers and crew were safe.
