A woman who was abandoned as a baby in the bathroom of a Burger King has started a social media campaign to find her birth mother.
The mother of Katheryn Deprill, who is now 27, gave birth to Deprill in 1986 and left her in the bathroom of a Burger King in Allentown, Pennsylvania, local newspaper The Morning Call reported.
Nicknamed the "Burger King Baby," Deprill posted on her Facebook page a picture of herself holding a handwritten note that read:
"Looking for my birth mother. She gave birth to me September 15th 1986. She abandoned me in the Burger King bathroom only hours old, Allentown, PA. Please help me find her by sharing my post. Maybe she will see this. Thank you."
Deprill's post has been shared over 22,000 times since she posted it March 2.
Baby Deprill was found by a woman who stopped for coffee at the Burger King located on South Fourth Street. The woman found a screaming baby in the women's bathroom, wrapped in a maroon sweatshirt and lying on top of a plastic bag, The Morning Call reported.
The police launched an investigation to find the baby's mother. At the time a Burger King employee told police he remembered seeing a woman in her early 20s with sandy brown hair who was driving a blue car. After dusting for finger prints, interviewing other witnesses and receiving several false tips, the police never found the baby's mother, The Morning Call reported.
The baby was taken to Allentown General Hospital, where she was determined healthy and admitted into foster care three days later. One couple, Brenda and Carl Hollis, took Deprill in and later adopted her.
Deprill, who is married with three boys, understands her birth mother might be reluctant to come forward. Deprill said she wants her mother to know she bears no ill will towards her.
"I would like to say thank you to her, that she did not throw me away," Deprill told The Morning Call.
