A multi-vehicle crash involving a tanker truck carrying 8,500 gallons of fuel resulted in a fiery explosion on a Connecticut highway.
The massive blaze triggered the shutdown of Interstate 95 in Norwalk, Connecticut, in both directions early Thursday, causing "horrendous" traffic jams, Gov. Ned Lamont told reporters during a press conference.
"Thank God, no serious injuries," Lamont added. "I know what an incredible inconvenience this is for people and all I can ask you to do is stay away from that area as best you can."
The city's Fairfield Avenue bridge sustained significant damage in the blaze and Lamont said he had been in contact with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
The fire took an hour to extinguish, firefighters said, according to News 12 Connecticut.
Fire officials said the bridge will have to be torn down and rebuilt, WABC-TV reported. It's unclear how long construction could take.
