Sri Lanka and Pakistan came in first and second place, respectively, to earn spots in the final. The Sri Lankans won all four of their matches, including the Asia Cup opener against Pakistan, and are coming off a three-wicket win on Thursday against Bangladesh.
Skipper Angelo Mathews won the Man of the Match award for his performance, which included scoring a game-high 74 runs, against Bangladesh. On the bowling front, Suranga Lakmal, Thisara Perera, Ajantha Mendis and Ashan Priyanjan all took two wickets apiece.
One storyline for Sri Lanka is the batting struggles of Mahela Jayawardene, who was held scoreless against Bangladesh. Despite Jayawardene accounting for only 36 runs in the tournament, his team remains confident he can snap out of his slump.
"He normally bats very well; it's only in the last three to four matches he has failed," Perera said, via CricBuzz.com. "He's a legend of cricket. He can come back very strongly at any time. He's our key batsman along with (Kumar) Sangakkara. Hope he comes back to form against Pakistan."
Pakistan's only loss of the Asia Cup came in their opener against Sri Lanka. The Pakistanis bounced back from their 12-run loss and won three straight matches, including winning by three wickets on Tuesday against Bangladesh.
Shahid Afridi won the Man of the Match award, and Ahmed Shehzad scored a game-high 103 runs.
