The identity of the man who sexually abused comedian Richard Gadd is reportedly known by "people in the industry," according to a TV host.
Gadd's experience was dramatized in his semi-autobiographical Netflix series Baby Reindeer.
TV host Richard Osman claims on The Rest is Entertainment podcast that Gadd's abuse is an open secret among people in the British comedy industry.
The Netflix series features the character Donny Dunn who comedian who is stalked and tormented by a woman named Martha. The show title is one of her nicknames for Donny, according to the New York Times.
The show also draws features Donny's rape by a television writer.
"There's a very, very serious thing that happens with a male comedy producer and Richard Gadd," Osman said, "And has been very open to people in the industry about who that person was."
No one has ever been prosecuted for Gadd's abuse case.
Writer and director Sean Foley was wrongly accused of being the inspiration for the character.
Foley said he faced "defamatory, abusive and threatening posts" after his name was linked to the abuse.
Gadd has asked fans to stop trying to figure out the identities of any of the people the show's characters are based on.
"People I love, have worked with, and admire (including Sean Foley) are unfairly getting caught up in speculation," Gadd said according to Business Insider.
"Please don't speculate on who any of the real life people could be. That's not the point of our show."
