Texas Authorities Discover 2 Bodies Near Garbage Bin In Galveston

Authorities discovered the bodies of two women near a garbage bin in Galveston, Texas on Friday, KWTX-TV reported.

According to reports by local media, investigators believe the women were killed somewhere else and then dumped near the bin.

Maj. Ray Tuttoilmondo of the Galveston County Sheriff's Office said it was unclear how they women were killed and that autopsies are currently being performed.

The bodies were discovered around 7:45 a.m. by an unidentified individual who notified police. Further details about the discovery or the women were not immediately available.

Earlier this year, the Galveston County's Medical Office reported the amount of homicides in the area as the lowest one yet, with 13 murders in 2013 -- the same amount in 2012.

Galveston is a popular resort area in Texas and home to groups of college students during spring break. Additionally, a Mardi Gras celebration on Saturday resulted in more than a dozen arrests -- prompting protests at the municipal court.

"Our car was like a block down, they wouldn't let us through," said Cannon Mitchell. "They told us to turn around, we turn around and next thing you know there's two tear gas being shot over our head. That's when everything went crazy."
