The FBI arrested a cruise ship employee in Juneau after he allegedly went on a stabbing spree.

Ntando Sogoni, 35, of South Africa allegedly used a pair of medical scissors in the attacks aboard the Norwegian Encore.

According to court documents, other ship employees saw Sogoni attempting to deploy a lifeboat on Monday.

Ship security personnel escorted him to the ship's medical center for an assessment.

The FBI says Sogoni physically attacked a security guard and a male nurse inside an examination room and went into another examination room where an elderly female passenger, who is a U.S. citizen, was being examined.

He allegedly grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed the woman multiple times in the arm, hand and face. He then stabbed one security guard in the head and another in the back and shoulders.

One of the guards was able to subdue Sogoni. He was detained and held in the ship's jail until the boat docked in Juneau and he was arrested.

Sogoni is charged with assault with a dangerous weapon within maritime and territorial jurisdiction because the ship was not in any U.S. state's waters.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each count.

Court documents reviewed by KTUU-TV stated that Sogoni had just joined the ship's crew in Seattle on May 5.
