Peacock on Wednesday announced a new mockumentary comedy series, starring Star War's actor Domhnall Gleeson, set in the same universe as NBC's "The Office."

The series from Greg Daniels, who adapted the U.S. version of "The Office," and "Nathan for You" co-creator Michael Koman follows the same "documentary" crew that chronicled life at Dunder Mifflin's Scranton branch as they tackle their next subject: a dying Midwestern newspaper.

Production is scheduled to begin in July, with Gleeson ("About Time," "Ex-Machina") and Sabrina Impacciatore ("The White Lotus") leading an ensemble cast.

Filmed in the same mockumentary style, the as-yet untitled new series will follow the historic newspaper's publisher as they try to revive it with volunteer reporters.

"It's been more than ten years since the final episode of 'The Office' aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock," Lisa Katz, President, NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement. "In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper."

The original U.K. version of "The Office" was created and written by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who will serve as executive producers on the untitled new Peacock series along with Daniels, Koman, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman and Banijay Americas.
