In a wide-ranging CNN interview, President Biden confirmed that he would halt shipments of some weapons to Israel if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an invasion of the Gaza city of Rafah.

"If they go into Rafah, I'm not supplying the weapons that have been used historically to deal with Rafah, to deal with the cities - that deal with that problem," Biden told CNN.

He admitted that U.S. bombs had been used to kill civilians in Gaza.

"Civilians have been killed in Gaza as a consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centers," Biden said.

Members of Netanyahu's government are reacting with anger to Biden's threat.

"Israel will continue to fight Hamas until its destruction," Israel Katz, the foreign minister, wrote on X. "There is no war more just than this."

Biden has publicly come out against a full Israeli assault on Rafah over concerns about the fate of refugees.

He did say the U.S. would continue to provide defensive weapons to Israel.

Biden touched on other topics in the CNN interview, including the economy and Donald Trump.

On Trump, he warned the former president was unlikely to accept the results if he loses the election.

"I promise you he won't," Biden said, "which is dangerous."

And despite polls that show many Americans are pessimistic about the economy, Biden says things are improving.

"We've already turned it around," Biden said.
