Chester County District Attorney Christopher L. de Barrena-Sarobe said, "Malinda was subjected to evil and torment that no child should ever have to endure."

The criminal complaint stated that police were called to a home on May 4 for a report of an unconscious 12-year-old girl.

Hoagland reported that his daughter was not responsive.

Officers were alerted by medics that something was gravely wrong with Malinda.

She was transported to Paoli Hospital Trauma Center. Medical staff there noticed the girl was emaciated. She weighed 50 pounds and was covered in bruises. She had at least a half-dozen broken bones and her organs were failing.

She died within hours.

West Caln Police Chief Curt Martinez said it was a "horrific case of child abuse."

An investigation found that Malinda had been pulled out of public school in late November and early December and shifted to a home cyber school.

They reviewed the phones used by the couple. They allegedly found dozens of videos from their home camera system.

The videos allegedly showed that Malinda was ankle-cuffed to furniture and verbally berated by the couple through an in-camera speaker system.

The videos showed that they would punish Malinda by demanding strenuous physical exercise, such as squats and running in place while still shackled.

The videos also allegedly showed that Malinda would be punished for perceived slights by being denied meals.

Authorities said there were months' worth of the videos.

The Chester County Detectives say if anyone has concerns about the safety of a child, they should call 911 or Childline at 1-800-932-0313. Childline reports can be anonymous.

Bail for the couple is set at $1 million and they are being held at the Chester County Prison.

They are due back in court on May 13.

A decision on whether to charge them with murder will be made after more medical evidence is fully available.
