The U.S. Coast Guard on Thursday carried out a medical evacuation of a man from a research vessel in the Gulf of Mexico.

Coast Guard Sector New Orleans watchstanders received the medevac request from the Rem Andes, a research/survey vessel sailing under the flag of The Bahamas in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Rem Andes was located about 165 miles south of Port Fourchon, La., when a 62-year-old man on board began experiencing "potential neurological symptoms," the Coast Guard said in a statement.

A Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew was dispatched to evacuate the patient. A video released by the Coast Guard shows the man being hoisted aboard the helicopter

The patient was transported the University Medical Center in New Orleans, and was "last reported to be in stable condition," the Coast Guard said.
