A Kentucky teenager is dead after he was allegedly hit on the head during a fight then sent back to class where he suffered a fatal seizure.

Emmanuel Emeka, 17, was just weeks away from his high school graduation when he was rushed to the hospital on Friday.

According to some witnesses, a fight broke out at Henry Clay High School when Emeka was struck on the back of the head. Emeka and his peers were all reportedly sent back to class without receiving medical attention.

The Fayette County Public Schools administration maintains that there was no fight and that Emeka suffered a medical emergency, according to WLEX.

The teen's mother, Irene, said that she received a phone call shortly before 11 a.m. about an emergency but was never contacted again, WLEX reported.

"The school is like a second family to him, so they are supposed to take responsibility when she's not around to know," a friend translating for Irene told the outlet. "And she wants to have that communication with them, so they can tell her what happened exactly with her son."

Emeka's younger siblings described him as "the best brother," while expressing disbelief that their sibling was gone.

"I thought they was lying but then when I came in here I saw everybody crying," his 14-year-old sister, Ndaya, told WLEX. "So then I started crying."

Emeka's best friend Modoul Danso told WLEX that even being inside his home or his friend's home is painful now.

"Nothing feels the same like it used to," he said. "We just miss him. It don't feel the same anymore."
