NFL Says Chief's Harrison Butker's 'Homemaker' Comments Don't Align With League Values

'His views are not those of the NFL'

The NFL is distancing itself from Kansas City Chief's kicker Harrison Butker's comments during a commencement address at a private Catholic college last weekend.

Butker addressed the female graduates of Benedictine College, telling them their "most important title" should be that of "homemaker."

"I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you," Butker said.

"Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother."

That is not sitting well with the NFL.

"Harrison Butker gave a speech in his personal capacity," Jonathan Beane, the NFL's senior vice president and chief diversity and inclusion officer, told HNGN in an emailed statement.

"His views are not those of the NFL as an organization. The NFL is steadfast in our commitment to inclusion, which only makes our league stronger."

Butker told male graduates to "be unapologetic in your masculinity," and to "fight against the cultural emasculation of men."

He also made comments alluding to gay pride being "sinful."

Women responded to the address with outrage on social media. One person posted parts of his speech images from the dystopian TV show "The Handmaid's Tale."

HNGN previously reported that Butker's mother is an accomplished medical physicist.

Elizabeth Keller Butker is a published author who has worked for decades at Emory University's Department of Radiation Oncology.

Benedictine is a private Catholic liberal arts college in Atchison, Kansas.

Butker received an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the school at the commencement.

Benedictine turned off commenting on the address on its YouTube page.
