Republican House Representative Lauren Boebert came to Donald Trump's defense on Thursday, offering explanations for his courtroom appearance as many critics claim he was dozing off during his criminal trial.
"But if he is sleeping, he certainly looks pretty while he sleeps. Maybe it's an endearing moment of prayer, though," Boebert explained.
Her comments follow Democratic Rep. Robert Garcia's outlining of the many times Trump appeared to have fallen asleep in court.
"I know when I fall asleep on airplanes, my mouth kind of drops open," said the GOP Colorado lawmaker.
"And his mouth is kind of tightlipped, so maybe it's just a somber moment of thought."
She made mention of the "boring" trial proceedings and stated they would put anyone to sleep: "It's not as exciting as the House Oversight Committee."
Trump is on trial for 34 counts of falsifying business records over an alleged "hush money" payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.
The former president continues to deny the allegations, saying he has done nothing wrong and that the trial is politically motivated.
