The body of a 3-year-old Colorado boy who had been reported missing was found in an irrigation canal on Sunday.

Amari Galan was reported missing on Saturday morning and an Endangered Missing Alert bulletin was issued.

The young special needs child was reportedly last seen around 4 a.m. in Rocky Ford. Galan had left his home on foot wearing only a diaper.

ooInvestigators from multiple law enforcement agencies conducted a search that soon focused on the Catlin canal that runs directly behind the child's home.

First responders searched through the night, searching in vehicles, on foot, with K-9s and drones.

Around 5 p.m. on Sunday, search and rescue personnel searching the banks of the canal by foot, found the little boy's body several miles downstream in the canal.

Otero County Coroner Robert Fowler arrived at the scene and confirmed his identity with the boy's family.

"Law enforcement wishes to share its condolences with the family of Amari Galan," the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said in a statement.
