Television star Sarah Wayne Callies recently shared some painful memories from her time on a critically-acclaimed show, which included being spat on by a co-star.

Sarah Wayne Callies has been revisiting her time on the hit TV series "Prison Break," and revealed there was "rampant misogyny" on the set.

During an appearance on the "Broad Ideas" podcast on Monday, the "Walking Dead" star said that rewatching the Fox series recently has helped her appreciate her time on the show despite "all of the challenges" that came with being "the only woman around."

"I've had an actor on that show spit in my face. And I was like, 'Holy s-t'," said Callies, 46. She did not reveal which actor spit on her, but said she would go into more detail on the "Prison Breaking" podcast she hosts with former co-star Paul Adelstein.

"We will talk about it someday, but ... there were things. Like, I would go home some nights and have to spend an hour talking my husband out of going to hospitalize somebody," she said.

Callies played Sara Tancredi on the show, which aired from 2005 to 2009, and also starred Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller. She explained that she "didn't have scenes with women" on the show, describing it as a "missed opportunity."

She said that at first she didn't want to rewatch the series, fearing it would send her "into a spiral" of "'What did I let them do to me? What did I let them say to me? What did I put up with? What did I not report?'"

"Some of the guys were great, and some of them were totally gentlemen," Callies said, noting that she made "lifelong friends" with some of the people she worked with on the show.
