A Florida man is facing charges for allegedly assaulting and threatening to kill to Secret Service agents who were investigating a threat against a protectee, authorities said.
Eric Evan Brown, 57, of White Springs, allegedly wrote a post on X, formerly Twitter, on April 7 threatening to kill the spouse of a former president of the United States, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Florida said in a news release Tuesday. The U.S. Attorney's office did not specify which former president's spouse was threatened.
Two Secret Service agents were investigating the threat when they encountered Brown on May 9. Brown allegedly forcibly assaulted and threatened to kill the agents.
Brown was charged with interstate transmission of a threat to injure, threatening a U.S. Secret Service Protectee, two counts of forcibly assaulting a federal officer without use of a deadly weapon, and two counts of threatening a federal official.
If convicted, Brown faces up to 5 years in prison each for the transmission of a threat and the threat against a U.S. Secret Service Protectee, up to 8 years in prison for each count of forcibly assaulting a federal officer, and up to 10 years in prison for each count of threatening a federal official.
