Comcast is reviving the cable television bundle for the streaming age - beginning next week the cable company will offer Peacock Premium (with ads), Netflix Basic (with ads) and Apple TV+ for $15 monthly.

The package will be available to Comcast customers, across the United States, as a monthly add-on to their cable packages.

Comcast President and CEO David Watson announced the new package at J.P. Morgan's 2024 Global Technology, Media and Communications Conference.

"StreamSaver is a homerun for consumers who want top-tier entertainment and live sports, and for our world-class partners Peacock, Netflix and Apple who benefit from the reach and depth of our entertainment platforms and Xfinity's marketing engine," Watson said in a press release.

"StreamSaver also reinforces the value of our broadband products, offering customers new ways to save money on streaming entertainment via the nation's best and most reliable network in and out of the home."

Some observers noted that the StreamSaver plan was another example of the "great rebundling" - after a decade of customers ditching cable, bundles seem to be making a return through streaming services. Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery recently announced a bundle of Disney+, Hulu and Max, that will debut this summer.

"It's not cable, but it's not not cable either. Streaming hasn't quite come full circle, but it's three-quarters of the way around," Jacob Stern wrote in the Atlantic.

"These bundles are ending an entire era of streaming, with its unsatisfying free-for-all of services. This new era may well be better than the one before it. But the dream of streaming as a cheaper, better version of cable is dead."
