Two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray, 30, died by suicide, his parents revealed Sunday.

Murray died Saturday, a day after he dropped out of the Charles Schwab Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas, saying he was suffering from an illness.

Murray, of Raleigh, North Carolina, withdrew from the tournament with two holes left to play in the second round on Friday.

His parents, Eric and Terry Murray, revealed their son took his own life in a statement shared on the PGA website.

"We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support," the statement said. "Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now."

Before th acuse of death was released, PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement Saturday: "We were devastated to learn — and are heartbroken to share — that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,"

"The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones," he added.

Monahan said Murray's family asked that the tour competition continue. "They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes," he added. Grief counselors are being provided at tour events.

"Our heart aches for his family, his friends and all who loved him during this very difficult time," Murray's management company, GSE Worldwide  statement.

Murray's friend and 2012 U.S. Open winner Webb Simpson told reporters Saturday that Murray's "mom was with him during the Wells Fargo Championship and I think they were hanging out together, and I loved those two days we got together. So I'm super thankful for getting some good time with him before the bad news of today."

Murray was a standout golfer from his youth. He won three consecutive Callaway Junior World Championships (2006-08) and was the top-ranked golfer in his age group.
