A Colorado rancher was killed alongside more than 30 head of cattle when lightning struck Saturday in Jackson County, officials said Sunday.

Mike Morgan, 51, had just finished branding cattle and was starting to feed them from a trailer on Saturday when the lightning struck in Rand, about 80 miles northwest of Denver, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

The lightning strike knocked over some 100 cattle, but most of them got back to their feet. Morgan was killed, along with 34 animals.

The National Weather Service Office in Boulder reported a line of storms moving through the Front Range Urban Corridor north of Denver Saturday afternoon, and warned of small hail and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour.

"Move Indoors when Thunder Roars," the agency warned Saturday on social media.
