An Illinois dad got into a shootout with several thieves attempting to carjack his luxury vehicles while his five daughters slept inside their home in an upscale neighborhood.
Several rounds of gunfire were exchanged between the unidentified homeowner and one of three suspects during the thwarted attempted armed robbery early Monday morning in Winnetka, Illinois – less than 20 miles outside downtown Chicago, said police.
The suspects gained access to the victim's Range Rover and Maserati by breaking into the garage via the home office. The victim was awakened by the sounds of his vehicles starting.
He told police he confronted the suspects who fired on him, prompting him to shoot back. The suspects fled.
No one was injured during the shooting.
"I was surprised that somebody would fire a gun, and it does make me a little bit concerned," neighbor Tim Connell said, according to WLS-TV.
"This is very unexpected," he added. "I would probably just let them take the car and worry about it later."
Police described the suspects as two possible males of unknown race wearing black masks, hoodies and dark pants. The victim was unable to provide a description of a third suspect who fled in a silver Audi sedan.
