Newly released audio of a 911 call reveals the chaos of a Florida supermarket shootout that resulted in the shooting of a 9-year-old boy.
The unidentified victim caught in the crossfire suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the ankle inside the Fresco y Más supermarket in Lauderhill, Florida, Monday, police said, according to WPLG-TV and WSVN-TV.
"We have one kid that's been hit in the foot," the store manager told dispatch during the shooting, WPLG reported. "There was someone in front of the store, they (were) arguing and a guy pulled out of a gun and started shooting."
Witnesses told police the violent incident stemmed from a parking dispute and resulted in the exchange of gunfire between several people, including convicted felon Jeremy Lockhart.
"... grabbed my son and as I'm grabbing him, he says, 'Ma, I've been shot in my ankle,'" the victim's mom, Taraneisha Jackson, told WTVJ-TV. "I'm just devastated."
Lockhart, 53, previously served more than 20 years in prison on a manslaughter charge in connection with a 1994 homicide, the outlet reported. He was released from custody in 2023.
He's now being held without bond.
Police continue to search for other people involved in the shootout.
