One person was killed when a home exploded in Wisconsin Tuesday night, and authorities believe gunshots reported by neighbors may have been ammunition set off by the fire.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a home explosion on the 4900 block of Capitol View Road in the town of Springfield, just northwest of Madison, at around 11 p.m. Tuesday, along with firefighters from the neighboring communities of Middleton, Verona, Mt. Horeb, Cross Plains, Union, and Black Earth.
One person was confirmed dead at the scene, the sheriff's office said in a press release early Wednesday. That person was not immediately publicly identified.
Neighbors reported hearing gunfire in the area, and the sheriff's office said the fire may have set off ammunition inside the home.
Capitol View Road was closed for several hours as firefighters battled the blaze. The sheriff's office said the cause of the explosion had not yet been determined, and remains under investigation.
