Elon Musk has reportedly been in talks with Donald Trump over a possible advisory role if he reclaims the White House.
They discussed him having a role in policies related to border security and the economy, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Musk made a high-profile visit to the border in September.
He has previously falsely claimed that he believes President Biden is encouraging migrants to come to the United States under the pretense they can vote. Only people with United States citizenship are eligible to vote in federal elections.
Trump and Musk's discussions have also reportedly included the U.S. Space Force.
Sources told the Journal that Trump has told Musk he wants to get him more involved in his future administration if he wins the election.
The talks appear to be preliminary and the role may not happen, the paper claims.
The pair have had an up-and-down relationship.
Two years ago they publicly traded insults but their relationship has reportedly thawed recently with Musk regularly calling Trump on his mobile phone.
In March, the billionaire said he was staying on the sidelines during this year's election and had no intentions of contributing funds to either Trump or President Joe Biden.
"Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President," Elon Musk said in a post on his social media platform X.
