A day after Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records, President Joe Biden said it was "irresponsible" for Trump to call the verdict "rigged," while reaffirming no one is above the law.
Biden delivered his remarks from the White House Friday and stood by the 12-person jury's unanimous decision.
"He'll be given the opportunity, as he should, to appeal that decision, just like everyone else has that opportunity. That's how the American system of justice works, and it's reckless, it's dangerous, it's irresponsible for anyone to say this was rigged just because they don't like the verdict," said Biden.
"The justice system should be respected, and we should never allow anyone to tear it down. It's as simple as that," he affirmed. "That's America, that's who we are, that's who will always be, God-willing."
During a press conference held by Trump earlier in the day, the former president alleged his criminal trial was "rigged" by "Biden and his people."
"Maybe his people, more importantly. I don't know if Biden knows too much about it, because I don't know if he knows about anything," he quipped.
Trump went on to insult Biden as "the worst president in the history of our country, the most incompetent. He's the dumbest president we've ever had," and vowed "November 5 is going to be the most important day in the history of our country" referring to the upcoming election.
