A Texas family of five was tragically killed when a FedEx truck careened into their SUV after veering into the wrong lane, causing a major collision.
The deadly accident occurred at roughly 8 p.m. on Tuesday when the 2019 FedEx box truck was traveling eastbound on US 57, just outside of Eagle Pass.
At the same time, a gray 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe, carrying a family of five, was traveling westbound, as confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety in a release.
As the FedEx truck swerved out of its lane and into oncoming traffic, it immediately connected with the family's SUV head-on.
Four family members were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, reported The Independent.
Authorities have identified them as Jose Martinez, 71; Noemi Jimenez Martinez, 61; Joanna Martinez, 34; and Samantha Martinez, 25.
A 10-year-old girl, whose name has not been disclosed, was being transported to Fort Duncan Medical Center by emergency responders but succumbed to her injuries en route.
The driver of the FedEx truck was injured and also taken to Fort Duncan Medical Center; however, his condition is unknown.
FedEx released a statement expressing their condolences, saying the company's "thoughts are with all of those involved in this tragic accident."
"We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends who are mourning the loss of loved ones," it read.
Adding, "Safety is our highest priority, and we are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities at this time."
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Texas DPS troopers.
