Hunter Biden's federal gun trial is beginning in a Delaware courthouse. Jury selection is set to get underway on Monday.
President Biden's son faces three felonies stemming from his purchase of a firearm back in 2018. He allegedly lied about his drug use during the purchase process.
Biden has admitted to using crack cocaine during this period but denies breaking the law while buying the gun.
His lawyers say the charges violate his Second Amendment rights and that "possessing an unloaded gun for 11 days was not a threat to public safety."
Prosecutors plan to use Hunter Biden's memoir as evidence against him. They also have information from a laptop that Biden abandoned at a Delaware repair shop that could be used against him.
The president's son has claimed he is being targeted by Republican's in Congress who pressured the Justice Department.
Among the questions the judge will reportedly ask prospective jurors is if they believe Hunter Biden is being prosecuted because his father is the president.
The gun case is not Biden's only legal issue. Another trial for tax charges is scheduled to start in September in California. He was accused of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes.
Both cases were to have been resolved through a deal with prosecutors last July but a judge questioned some unusual aspects of the deal, the Associated Press reported.
The lawyers could not come to a satisfactory resolution and the deal fell apart.
Hunter Biden's gun trial comes just days after Donald Trump was convicted of 34 felonies in New York City.
