The horrifying moment a man shot his neighbor nine times point blank in front of his wife was caught on live camera.
What started as an argument over a shared water valve between two neighbors turned deadly after one of the men pulled out a gun and fatally shot the other at point-blank range.
Surveillance footage showed the two couples yelling across their adjoining properties at the Rio Palma condominium complex in Escazu, Costa Rica, before they took the dispute into the front yard.
Otoniel Orozco Mendoza initially threw punches at his neighbor Eduardo Ramirez Zamora, which quickly escalated the verbal altercation into a physical one, according to The Daily Mail.
It was then that Zamora pulled out his gun and fired at least nine shots at Mendoza, killing him instantly.
The first responders pronounced Mendoza dead at the scene.
The victim's wife can be seen screaming and running as Zamora fired the shots, while his wife is trying to pull him back in an attempt to subdue him.
Zamora was arrested after the incident and will spend three months in preventive detention.
Relatives of the deceased told Costa Rican media that there had been long-standing issues between both men.
Mendoza's sister-in-law, Dayli Avendano, told CR Hoy,
"Before this man committed that atrocity, my sister had already reported him on many occasions, and the authorities never did anything."
Avendano also made claims that Zamora was harassing Mendoza's children.
However, Zamora's father says the fights between the neighbors began months ago and blames the heightening tension on renovations being made to Mendoza's house.
Zamora's father also claims Mendoza attacked his son's wife on the day of the incident, justifying the killing as an act of self-defense.
Mendoza, 53, is survived by his wife, his daughter, and his son.
