The Kansas City Chiefs defensive end, BJ Thompson, 27, suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest while in a specials team meeting at the NFL team's facilities on Thursday.
He was "is awake and responsive," on Friday his agent, Chris Turnage, told NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
Defensive Coordinator Steven Spagundo addressed the incident to reporters at a charity softball game.
"Let me say this before I say anything; I'm thinking about BJ right now," Spagundo told WDAF-TV.
"It was scary. I think the guys were a little bit scared; I know I was. But after a lot of praying, [head athletic trainer] Rick Burkholder and his staff did a terrific job."
Several Chiefs players spent Thursday evening at Legends Field as part of the 2nd annual Kansas City charity softball game that raised more than $200,000.
The Chiefs team chaplain, Father Richard Rocha, held a moment of prayer for Thompson at the game.
Thompson is the Chiefs' 2023 fifth-round pick out of Stephen F. Austin. He appeared in one game in his rookie season.
