The Israeli military says it has killed a top Hezbollah military leader in an airstrike in Lebanon. Hezbollah reportedly responded by firing a massive barrage of rockets into northern Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces says it "eliminated" Sami Taleb Abdullah, the commander of the Nasr Unit in Hezbollah on Tuesday night.
He was reportedly killed in a strike on a Hezbollah command and control center in the area of Jouaiyya in southern Lebanon. The IDF claims it was used to direct terrorist attacks against Israel from southeastern Lebanon in recent months.
Abdullah was considered one of Hezbollah's most senior commanders in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli military said he "planned, advanced and carried out" attacks against Israeli civilians. The IDF says three other Hezbollah operatives were also killed in the strike.
The IDF said that Hezbollah fired about 160 projectiles at Israel from southern Lebanon on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported. No injuries were reported.
