Search and rescue crews extricated a 9-year-old boy from a tent after a tree fell on it during a Minnesota storm.

Rescuers reached the boy by boat at Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Tuesday night, according to officials in Cook County, Minnesota.

He was airlifted to an area hospital in unknown condition.

The incident occurred during heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorms that produced several inches of rain in the northeastern part of the state, prompting the Cook County Sheriff's Office to issue a warning to travelers.

"If you do not need to travel tonight, please stay put," the sheriff's office advised in a Facebook post Tuesday, noting the 911 call volume was "extremely high."

Authorities "had multiple reports of flooding along Hwy 61, making driving difficult and dangerous. Trees are also down along many interior roads. No travel is advised," they warned.

The area remains under a flood warning, according to the National Weather Service.
