Authorities confirmed remains found in a basement one day after a man was convicted of his wife's murder belong to his ex-girlfriend who disappeared in 2020.
Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said Jilly Todaro was a "victim of homicidal violence" identified through body imaging by a forensic odontologist and anthropologist, according to the Associated Press.
He did not elaborate on her manner of death.
Todaro's body was found buried in the basement of 48-year-old convicted murderer Brian Bradley Giles' Johnstown, Pennsylvania, home Friday, the day after he was found guilty in the slaying of his wife, Nancy Giles, who disappeared in October 2018.
Nancy's body was found buried near a trail in Johnstown in 2020, investigators said, according to WJAC-TV and The Tribune-Democrat.
Giles and Todaro were in a relationship the same time police were investigating Nancy's disappearance. Authorities had been in contact with Todaro before she vanished.
"Jilly was really a nice person. She really was," Cambria County District Attorney Greg Neugebauer said, the outlet reported. "I don't think she always liked things I had to say to her, or Jessica (Aurandt, assistant district attorney) had to say to her, but we were coming from a good place, trying to help her. She was a good person."
"This one hits me a little differently," Neugebauer said. "Every homicide is a tragedy. This one is just a little different."
"I just wish that Jilly could have seen, in her lifetime, the amount of people who rallied together, who made a lot of sacrifices to ensure that she was found and treated with the dignity she deserved," explained Aurandt. "I wish she could have seen how many people care. I see a lot of public response to this case. I wish she knew how many people cared, and how many people care now."
Neugebauer said he expects to file murder charges against Giles soon.
