Rep. Bob Good was among Republican lawmakers who spoke outside the courthouse in New York City during Donald Trump's hush money trial.

The heavily contested race in Virginia between Rep. Bob Good, the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, and Trump-backed challenger state Sen. John Mcguire is still too-close to call.

McGuire leads Good by just 300 votes in the Republican primary election for Virginia's 5th Congressional District out of 62,000 cast, or about 0.4 percent, the Associated Press reported.

Good is asking for "patience" from his constituents as he hopes the final ballot count, including mail-in ballots, will put him ahead of McGuire.

Under Virginia law, if the margin of victory is under a half of a percentage point once the results are certified, the state will conduct a recount that could take weeks.

"Provisional ballots and mail-in ballots are also still to be counted. We are asking for full transparency from the officials involved and patience from the people of the 5th District over the coming weeks as the certification of results is completed," Good said in a posting on X.

"We believe we can still prevail," he said.

Good drew Donald Trump's ire despite trekking to Manhattan to support the former president during his hush money trial, for endorsing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis when he was running against Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.

McGuire, who claimed victory Tuesday night after the initial results came in, said he is confident of winning.

"I look forward to working with Trump to beat Joe Biden in November & pass Trump's agenda in Congress. Trump & McGuire will Make America Great Again!," he said on X.

"Folks in the 5th can rest assured that should they elect me in Nov., they will have an effective fighter in Congress who will get the job done for them," he said in another posting.
