Police in England say the tragic death of a 7-month-old girl was simply due to a bite from the family's dog and nothing the family could have predicted.
An investigation cleared the family of any criminal charges, the West Midlands Police announced on Friday.
Police were called to a property on Shorncliffe Road around 3 p.m. last Sunday.
Elle Doherty was found with serious head injuries from being bitten inside the family's home.
Paramedics gave little Elle treatment at the scene before they rushed her to the hospital for care.
She died a short time later.
The pet dog, registered as a Belgian Malinois, was removed from the home on Sunday and put down.
Police released a heartbreaking photo of a smiling and bubbly Elle on Friday in announcing the closure of the investigation.
"Our thoughts remain with the family at this tragic time," the police said. "The have now asked to be left to grieve in private."
