A man climbed the fence and onto the roof of the FBI building in San Diego on Sunday, refusing to come down for most of the day, the Associated Press reported.
According to FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth, 36-year-old William Durant hopped a security gate alone around 11:30 a.m. After he tried to get through the main entrance, police were called.
However, Durant was able to get to the top of the parking structure and then to the rooftop on an annex building.
"When he did make entry into the building, one of our security officers tried to stop him. In the course of doing so, the man indicated he had a weapon," Foxworth said. "I'm told a weapon has not been seen, but he did tell the officer he was armed with a weapon."
According to NBC News, Durant was armed with a broken metal door handle. When he was up on the roof, Durant called NBC 7 but would not identify himself. He did say he felt scared for his safety and asked for help, but didn't give details why.
The incident finally ended around 5 p.m. after negotiators were able to work with him and bring him down.
A motive for his actions are unknown and he will face federal charges.
