Three people were killed and 10 others injured during a mass shooting outside an Arkansas grocery store Friday.

The victims –– including two police officers who suffered nonfatal gunshot wounds –– were struck by gunfire around 11:30 a.m., in the Mad Butcher parking lot in Fordyce, Arkansas –– about 70 miles outside of Little Rock, according to authorities.

During an afternoon press conference, Director of Arkansas State Police Mike Hagar said a lone gunman, whose identity has not been disclosed, suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound by responding officers and was taken into custody.

"It's tragic," said Hagar. "Our hearts are broken, our prayers, along with Governor Sanders and the entire state of Arkansas will be with this community and those affected victims."

The injuries sustained by the remaining victims ranged from non-life-threatening to extremely critical, he said.

A motive remains under investigation.

Earlier Friday, in a statement shared on X, Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she had been "briefed on the tragic shooting in Fordyce, and I'm in constant contact with State Police at the scene. I am thankful to law enforcement and first responders for their quick and heroic action to save lives. My prayers are with the victims and all those impacted by this horrific incident."
