One of two men believed dead in a shooting in Birmingham has survivied.

One of two masked gunmen pronounced dead at the scene of a robbery in Alabama is still alive, according to officials.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office has released the name of a masked man killed during a suspected robbery on Friday as 34-year-old Rufus Jermaine Brock.

Birmingham Police had initially reported that two men were killed; however, on Monday, coroner officials stated they had only been made aware of one homicide from the incident, AL.com reported.

Police say the second suspect, who was believed dead, was revived at UAB Hospital and that his condition is currently unknown.

Three men were involved in a shootout. Police say two of the shooters were wearing black ski masks and a third was believed to be a victim of the robbery.

Multiple shots were heard at 11 a.m. on Friday in the 4400 block of Fifth Avenue South in the Oak Tree Apartment complex.

Brock was pronounced dead in the parking lot while still wearing a nylon mask, while the other two were rushed to UAB Hospital.

Police think the victim was targeted for the robbery.

"These are two men in 90-degree weather wearing ski masks," Fitzgerald said.  "You tell us what you think they were up to. That's what we're dealing with."

Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald said,  "This just goes to show you the level of carelessness the criminal element has."

At least 13 shots were fired in the incident.

Fitzgerald warned criminals, "Before you think you can get the drop on somebody, just remember that other person you think may be a victim; it doesn't always turn out that way."

There have been 73 homicides in Birmingham so far this year, AL.com reported.
