Authorities arrested a wheelchair-bound Louisiana man accused of attacking a "well-known" high school principal and inflicting severe injuries against the longtime educator.
Christopher Kidd, 33, of Chalmette, Louisiana, has been charged with second-degree robbery, simple battery of the infirm, theft, simple assault, shoplifting, resisting a police officer with force or violence, and battery on a police officer, in connection with an incident Sunday, according to the St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responding to an ambulance request came into contact with the victim, identified as Wayne Warner, who alleged Kidd attacked him in the street.
Warner said he pulled over to the side of the road when he witnessed a man in a wheelchair knocking over trash cans and mailboxes. He said he then got out of his car and asked Kidd if he needed help.
Kidd allegedly responded by violently pushing Warner, causing injuries that will "require surgery," the sheriff's office said, without elaborating.
During the scuffle, Kidd allegedly threw Warner's cell phone into the bushes.
When he was tracked down by deputies, he was allegedly stealing items from a nearby store and hiding them in his wheelchair.
After allegedly resisting arrest, Kidd was taken into custody.
