The United States is sending Ukraine what it describes as a "significant new package" of weapons and equipment to Ukraine.
The $150 million package falls under a program set up by President Biden. It includes missiles for HAWK air defense systems, ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), 155mm and 105mm artillery rounds, 81mm mortar rounds, Tube-Launched, Optically-Tracked, Wire-Guided (TOW) missiles, Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems, the State Department says.
It is also sending small arms ammunition and grenades, demolitions equipment and munitions, tactical vehicles to tow and haul equipment, tactical air navigation systems and aircraft support equipment, night vision devices and spare parts, maintenance and other field and ancillary equipment.
"This support will also help strengthen Ukraine's air defenses against Russian attacks and reinforce Ukraine's capabilities across the front lines," Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.
This is the seventh security assistance package President Biden has authorized to help Ukraine since signing the national security supplemental two months ago.
Blinken said the U.S. will move the weaponry "as quickly as possible" to help Ukraine battle Russian forces.
The aid might be too late for Ukraine to hold onto Chasive Yar. Ukraine's army retreated Thursday from the outskirts of the strategically important town in the eastern Donetsk region, according to the Associated Press.
The town has been under a monthslong Russian assault.
