U.S. Sen. Mark Begich is taking aim at the Koch brothers in a new television ad, calling out the Republican donors for promoting lies about his stance on issues, USA TODAY reported.
"First it was a D.C. actress pretending to be an Alaskan," the ad's narrator says. "Now ads attacking Mark Begich on a carbon tax have been called 'false' and 'not true.' Who's behind the attacks?"
Near the end of the ad, one man says "I don't go down to tell them what to do, I expect them not to come up to Alaska to tell us what to do."
Charles and David Koch, who fund Americans for Prosperity, have spent millions of dollars fighting against the Affordable Care Act and the legislators who support it -- including Begich.
In a Koch ad targeting Begich, a Maryland actress portrayed an Alaskan resident. Another ad criticized him for supporting a carbon tax, which FactCheck.org claims is "not true."
Heidi Gay, a spokeswoman for Americans for Prosperity, said the group will continue to hold Begich and legislators "accountable for pushing President Obama's big-government agenda."
"It's disappointing that Senator Begich's first message to Alaskans is a Washington-style, negative attack ad that does nothing to address any of the real concerns voters have about his record," Gay added.
Begich is certainly not alone in his criticism of the Koch brothers. Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) chided the duo in a recent speech.
"I guess if you make that much money, you can make these immoral decision," Reid said. "The Koch brothers are about as un-American as anyone I can imagine."
