A Utah home is a total loss after discarded fireworks reignited in a trash bin and sparked a fire, officials said.

The Pleasant Grove Fire Department responded to a house fire near 1400 North and 500 East in Pleasant Grove shortly after 1:00 a.m. Friday. Firefighters arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, which spread from the garage to the roof, causing a collapse.

Crews were still working to extinguish the blaze at around 8 a.m. Friday.

The residents of the home safely evacuated and were uninjured, and one cat was found but another cat remained unaccounted for, per reports.

The fire began when used fireworks were discarded in a garbage bin in the garage and they reignited.

Fire Chief Chase Gustman told ABC4.com the damage to the home is estimated to be between $800,000 and $1 million. Gustman said the incident is a reminder to soak used fireworks in a bucket of water before discarding them, and to avoid storing used fireworks indoors.
