A 24-year-old man allegedly strangled his grandmother to death at a Virginia nursing home with the help of his mother, the victim's daughter.

Cleo Ann Loizides, 81, was found unresponsive on June 30 at Commonwealth Senior Living, according to Norfolk Police.

Officies arrived to the home just before midnight and pronounced Loizides dead at the scene.

Loizides' death was initially classified as undetermined but a medical examiner ruled it a homicide on July 9.

Court documents obtained by WTKR-TV revealed that Clifton Cummings, 24, allegedly strangled Loizides with a strap from a bag he was carrying, while Heather Cummings, 54, held her down and told her, "Just let go; it's for the best."

Heather Cummings confessed to the murder by strangulation, according to the court documents.

The duo allegedly traveled from their home in Hobart, Indiana to commit the murder.

The pair is charged with second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder and are being held at the Norfolk City Jail without bond.

An obituary for Loizides described her as a passionate needlepointer and avid reader who enjoyed traveling and had a deep love for animals.
