One person is dead and six others were hospitalized after a pickup truck collided with an Amish horse-drawn buggy in Virginia Sunday night, officials said.

The Virginia State Police said troopers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash on the 2700 block of Cumberland Road in the Farmville area of Cumberland County, about 50 miles west of Richmond, shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday.

The buggy had seven occupants, one of whom died at the scene, according to state police. According to the Farmville Herald, the deceased victim was identified as a child of the Amish family in the buggy.

The remaining six occupants were transported to UVA Medical Center with injuries ranging from serious to life-threatening, state police said. The driver of the pickup truck was unharmed.

State Police said the crash remains under investigation.
