The Texas Department of Public Safety announced the seizure of more than 242 pounds of suspected cocaine during a traffic stop on Saturday.

A DPS trooper stopped a 2020 Kia Sportage on Interstate 40 near Vega, about 35 miles west of Amarillo in northern Texas, at around 1:50 p.m. for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered three large duffel bags filled with 100 bricks of plastic-wrapped cocaine, authorities said.

DPS special agents and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency agents were called in to assist, and the DEA took over the investigation, DPS said.

Ezequiel Canela-Cabrera, 29, from Kissimmee, Fla., was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail on a felony charge of possession of a controlled substance.

The drugs were allegedly being transported from Las Vegas, Nev., to Boston, Mass., authorities said.
