Former White House official Peter Navarro was released from prison on Wednesday and expected to speak at the Republican National Convention just hours later, said a close source who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Navarro was released from custody after completing his four-month sentence over his refusal to cooperate with a congressional investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
The Justice Department prosecuted the former White House adviser for ignoring a congressional subpoena after Congress had held him in criminal contempt. He was then referred to the Department of Justice.
Prosecutors argued that Navarro's non-compliance with lawmakers had placed him outside the usual scope of discussions that other former officials had had regarding their participation in congressional probes.
Navarro unsuccessfully petitioned the Supreme Court to intervene on his behalf.
He is set to speak at 6 p.m. while traveling to Milwaukee for the third night of the Republican National Convention, according to The Associated Press.
